Visa Services

All visa applicants are required to fill and submit their visa applications online at http://indianvisaonline.gov.in. While filling the application form online, applicants should select ‘Reunion Island’ in the field “Indian Mission”. This applies to all applicants, including applicants from Mayotte and citizens of other countries applying for visa at the Indian Consulate in Reunion Island.

After filling and submitting the application form online, applicants are requested to print the application form and submit it, along with two recent colour photographs of size 5x5cm with white background and relevant documents required for each type of visa, at the Consulate on working days between 0930hrs and 1230hrs (Check out the list of holidays for the Consulate).

Please Note that the applicant will have to visit the Consulate personally for enrolment of biometric data.

Visa fee amount will depend on the type of visa applied for, your nationality, profession etc. and payment has to be made by card only.

Visa application for minor children:

  1. 1. For minor children (i.e. below 18 years of age) who will be traveling alone, a 'No Objection Certificate' from both the parents attested by Municipality is mandatory for processing of visa applications.
  2. 2. For minor children (i.e. below 18 years of age) who will be traveling with one parent, a letter of 'No Objection' from the other parent is mandatory for processing of visa applications.

Important Information:

  1. 1. Choose your visa category based on your purpose of travel or in certain cases even your profession.
  2. 2. The validity of a visa begins on the day it is issued by the Consulate and not on the date of departure.
  3. 3. The application must be personally submitted by the applicant at the Consulate.
  4. 4. The Consulate General of India accepts all payments of fees only by card.
  5. 5. The Visa Fee once paid is non-refundable. Payment only allows the applicant to deposit a visa application and is not a guarantee of issuance of visa. The Consulate reserves the right to accept, refuse or modify a visa application, as deemed necessary under extant rules and regulations.

Different Types of Visa and their purpose:

  1. 1. Tourist Visa

This category of visa is applicable to foreign nationals whose sole objective of visiting India is for recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, attending a short term yoga programme, short duration medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine, short term courses on local languages, music, dance, arts & crafts, cooking, medicine etc. which should not be a formal or structured course/ programme (courses not exceeding 6 months duration and not issued with a qualifying certificate/ diploma etc.), and voluntary work of short duration (for a maximum period of one month, which do not involve any monetary payment or consideration of any kind in return). etc. and no other purpose/ activity. While travelling on a Tourist Visa, a foreign national can stay a maximum of 90 days during each visit even though the visa may be valid for a longer duration. Please note that the Tourist visa cannot be exchanged for another type of visa and also cannot be extended in India.

  1. 2. Business Visa

This category of visa is applicable to foreign nationals who wish to visit India to establish an industrial/business venture or to explore possibilities, other than Proprietorship Firms and Partnership Firms, in India, purchase/sell industrial products or commercial products or consumer durables, hold technical meetings/discussions, attending Board meetings or general meetings for providing business services support, recruitment of manpower et,. foreign nationals who are partners in a business and/or functioning as Directors of a company, consultations regarding exhibitions or for participation in exhibitions, trade fairs, business fairs etc., transact business with suppliers/potential suppliers at locations in India, to evaluate or monitor quality, give specifications, place orders, negotiate further supplies etc., relating to goods or services procured from India; foreign experts/specialists on a visit of short duration in connection with an ongoing project with the objective of monitoring the progress of the work, conducting meetings with Indian customers and/or to provide technical guidance, pre-sales or post-sales activity not amounting to actual execution of any contract or project, foreign trainees of multinational companies/corporate houses coming for in-house training in the regional hubs of the concerned company located in India, foreign nationals coming as tour conductors and travel agents and/or conducting business tours of foreigners or business relating to it, etc., foreign academicians/ experts coming under GIAN (Global Initiative for Academic Networks), crew members of scheduled/non-scheduled flights operated by scheduled airlines, non-scheduled and chartered flights operated by non-scheduled airlines and special flights, foreign nationals intending to visit India to participate in cultural events/ activities with remuneration, foreign nationals who are engaged in commercial sports events in India on contract.

3. JOURNALIST VISA

This category of visa is applicable to foreign nationals who are

-           professional journalists, photographers, documentary film producers or Directors (other than of commercial films), representatives of a radio and/or television organization, travel writers/ travel promotion photographers etc.

-           and/or foreign journalists visiting India for any other purpose such as attending a Conference, tourism, meeting relatives etc.

  1. 4. CONFERENCE VISA

This category of visa will be applicable to foreign nationals whose sole objective for visiting India is to attend a conference / seminar or workshop. A letter of invitation by the organiser and political clearance by the Ministry of External Affairs to organise the seminar/conference is required to be submitted along with the other relevant documents.

  1. 5. MEDICAL VISA

This category of visa is applicable to foreign nationals whose sole purpose is to seek medical treatment in established/recognized/specialized hospitals/treatment centres in India.  A letter from the concerned hospital certifying the need for the applicant to visit India for the treatment should be submitted along with the application and other relevant documents.

  1. 6. TRANSIT VISA

This category of visa is applicable to foreign nationals whose sole purpose is to travel through India to a destination outside India. Valid ticket in the name of the applicant proving the intent to transit through India should be submitted along with the application and other relevant documents.

  1. 7. DIPLOMATIC/OFFICIAL VISA

Visa applications for persons holding diplomatic/official/UN Passports are accepted at the Consulate General of India in Saint Denis. The following documents may be submitted along with online visa application form filled on https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/ :

  • Passport with validity of not less than six months and must have at least three blank pages.
  • Note verbale from Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Embassy/Diplomatic Organisation.
  • Two passport size photos (5X5 cm)
  1. 8. STUDENT VISA

This category of visa allows an applicant to travel to India to study at a university or technological institute, take part in an academic exchange program, follow a course in Yoga, Vedic culture, Indian systems of dance and music, professors or scholars intending to conduct research work in India and applicants intending to pursue internship in an Indian Company/Educational Institution/NGO, Foreign Missions/Posts and other foreign government organizations in India.

  1. 9. ENTRY VISA

This visa category is for applicants who is/are:-

  • A person of Indian origin
  • Spouse and children of a person of Indian nationality or origin
  • Applicants going to join Auroville Foundation/Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry/Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata/similar approved organizations, temples and foreign Buddhist monks coming to join Buddhist Monasteries/other Buddhist organizations for charity work.

  1. 10. Employment Visa

This visa allows you to travel to India to work for an Indian company, to become an expatriate in an international company or organisation, NGO and for Intra company transfer.

Please note: that immediate family members of a person travelling to India with an Employment visa should apply for an Entry visa.

The Following Persons Are Not Eligible For Employment Visas:

  • Non-French passport holders who have not been resident in France for more than 24 months (proof required)
  • Minors
  • Business partners or directors managing a company set-up in their name and/or majority shareholders in a company.
